About Us
Welcome to Run Buddies!
Thanks for checking out and considering this opportunity to get fit or to stay fit. Whether you’re a kid looking to get active, or an adult looking to share your enthusiasm for running, walking and living a healthy lifestyle, Run Buddies is a great way to get outside, and get fit for life.
For the last 10 years, I have been leading Louie's Kids, a non-profit that helps kids all over the country who are struggling with obesity. We developed Run Buddies to reach more kids and reach them now, before their weight gets out of control.
An incredibly talented and educated team of folks who are dedicated to children’s wellness, weight loss and physical activity created the program. Ryan Madamba, a former director of premiere weight loss camps and himself a world-class athlete, wrote the program manual. And, Millicent Jordan, LPC, Louie’s Kids clinical director with 10 years of children and family counseling under her belt, wrote the 16-week behavioral curriculum for Louie’s Kids' Fit Club in addition to working with Ryan on the Run Buddies manual.
The program is pretty simple: Run Buddies works with kids who need an adult to go along, set the pace and know what the walks, runs and workouts will be; and adults that want to share in their love of being and staying active. A kid signs up for a walking or running mentor, and Louies Kids gets to work finding a suitable running or walking companion for you in your area. Boys will be placed with male running/walking partners, girls with female Run Buddies. You set the time, day and pace with your Run Buddy and then you’re off!
We have had more than 50 successful partnerships in our home base of Charleston, SC, including that of student Chris Birch and his Run Buddy Greg Brown. Chris completed Louie's Kids' Fit Club program in the winter of 2009. We paired him with his Run Buddy, Greg, shortly after the program ended. Chris has not only lost and kept off MORE THAN 23 pounds since leaving Fit Club, he and Greg just completed the Cooper River Bridge Run together and ran it in 2 hours and 10 minutes. Now that's amazing for a kid who had never run consistently before.
It’s easy, just start with a walk, set a fitness goal, and get moving! Don’t let another day pass you by without being more active.
I’m glad you’ve come by to check out our website. Take a look, and send us an e-mail if you have any questions.
Believe me, it’s worth it, a lifetime of health and active living is just one step away.
Sincerely,
Louis H. Yuhasz
